Lucknow: Starting January, the Congress party will hold a series of rallies across UP to thank people for showing faith in the grand old party in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and to seek their support for the 2027 assembly polls.Party sources said the initiative would mark the formal beginning of the Congress’s preparations for the 2027 assembly elections in the state. Insiders also noted that leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Sonia Gandhi, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge would be leading some of these key rallies.UP Congress president Ajay Rai confirmed the development, stating: “Arrangements are currently in place to organise more than 30 rallies across six organisational zones of the party, covering all the 17 parliamentary constituencies from which the Congress contested the 2024 general elections. The campaign would focus on strengthening the party’s grassroots connect and reviving cadre activity at the booth and block levels.“In 2024, Congress, in alliance with the SP, managed to significantly reduce the BJP’s tally in the state in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Congress contested 17 seats and won six of them. The outcomes gave the Congress and its partners the confidence for an improved performance in the upcoming 2027 Vidhan Sabha elections as well.Rai said the rallies would not only be a gesture of gratitude but also an opportunity to highlight issues related to unemployment, inflation, social justice and constitutional values. Senior state and national leaders are expected to take part in the programme, which will include public meetings, interactions with workers and community outreach events. An official announcement detailing the scheduleand campaign themes is expected on Dec 28, which coincides with the Congress party’s foundation day, for which AICC in-charge for UP Avinash Pande is visiting Lucknow.
