Speaker Satish Mahana asked the govt to look into the demand. Parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Khanna assured the House that the matter would be looked into. Another SP MLA, Hridya Narain Singh Patel demanded regulation to check misuse of social media. Even Speaker sought stringent measures to check the issue. Replying to this, Khanna said misuse of social media and uploading of objectionable content can draw a penalty of Rs 1 crore on the accused. He also said provision of punishment for up to 7 years has been put in place for such crime. Appreciating the effort of Patel to take up the important issue, Khanna told the House that the UP govt has made one cyber police station in every district which were earlier only two to three in the entire state. He further said training is being imparted to cops to check the menace of digital fraud and social media misuse. He said a DIG level officer has been deputed to deal with such crimes. In another turn of event, Apna Dal (S) MLA from Soharatgarh Vinay Varma raised the issue of threat to him from a Nepali citizen. He was trying to speak under Rule 300. He was supported by MLAs from opposition benches, who requested the Speaker to allow him to speak. However, even when the SP MLAs were requesting the Speaker, minister of state for parliamentary affairs Mayankeshwar Singh rushed to Varma’s seat, held his hand and brought him before Suresh Khanna’s seat. Later, Varma said Khanna has assured him of action.
