KGMU doc suspended for sexual exploitation, forcing colleague to convert | Lucknow News
Lucknow: A 28-year-old junior resident of King George’s Medical University, Lucknow, was suspended on Tuesday after a colleague accused him of sexual exploitation, blackmail and pressuring her to change religion.An FIR was also registered against the accused doctor at Chowk police station on charges of sexual exploitation, false promise of marriage, criminal intimidation and mental harassment. The complaint states that sustained pressure and alleged blackmail pushed the woman to attempt suicide.
An official order issued by Dean (academics), KGMU, said the complaint has been taken up by the Internal Committee for Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace.In addition to the suspension, the university has barred the accused doctor from official duties and campus entry, and allowed access only for inquiry proceedings. Officials said the suspension was ordered on the sexual harassment complaint, while allegations related to attempted religious conversion are yet to be verified by the police. Meanwhile, officials said the Chief Minister’s office took cognisance of the matter and directed a swift probe.Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) protested against the doctor on the KGMU campus on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum on the issue to the university officials.On Monday, the woman doctor had submitted a written complaint to Chowk police as well as the KGMU administration.She alleged that the accused, who works in the same department as hers, befriended her in July 2025. He introduced himself as a resident of Khatima in Uttarakhand. They occasionally met at public places in Chowk and later grew closer and he even promised marriage to her, she said.In Aug, the accused doctor visited her rented accommodation in Thakurganj and established physical relations with her on repeated assurances of marriage. The relationship allegedly continued on similar promises.In Sept, the woman discovered that she was pregnant. When informed, the accused allegedly gave her medication, saying the pregnancy should not continue as they were not married. Around the same time, she came in contact with a woman who claimed to be his legally wedded wife and said he had married her in Feb 2025 after she converted.When confronted, the accused allegedly denied the marriage and again assured the woman that he would marry her.In Oct, when she insisted on marriage, he allegedly pressured her to change her religion as a condition. She refused and tried to distance herself. The woman alleged that he threatened to make their intimate photographs and videos public if she did not convert.The alleged blackmail and mental trauma pushed her into severe distress, leading her to attempt suicide on Dec 17, butwas saved by timely intervention of her friends.As she was recuperating, the woman’s father filed a complaint against the accused on the Chief Minister’s grievance portal on Dec 19. After being discharged, the woman recorded her statement and submitted her complaint.Attempts by TOI to contact the accused were unsuccessful. However, KGMU officials said the accused has stated that he is not married and that the relationship was consensual.ACP Chowk Raj Kumar Singh said an FIR has been registered under Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges related to sexual intercourse obtained by deceitful means, miscarriage without consent, criminal intimidation, and provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021. A probe is underway, he said.
