KGMU to establish data science centre on its campus | Lucknow News

Lucknow: King George’s Medical University (KGMU) on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with India Health Action Trust (IHAT) to establish a data science centre on its campus.The centre aims to improve referral systems and disease surveillance, with an initial focus on pregnancy referral analysis and monitoring of measles and subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE), a rare complication of measles.The MoU was signed by Prof Soniya Nityanand, vice chancellor, KGMU, and John Anthony, senior project director, IHAT-UPTSU.The University of Manitoba, Canada, will provide technical support for the centre, with participation from Dr James Blanchard and Dr Marissa Becker during the ceremony.Prof Nityanand said that the initiative reflects the university’s focus on integrating innovation with healthcare systems.The centre is expected to enhance KGMU’s capacity in health data analysis and public health planning.“Over time, the centre may broaden its scope to include areas such as urban health, cancer surveillance, and geriatric care,” she added.
